This course is an introductory study of the American presidency. We will explore the origins and evolution of the American presidency from 1776 to the present. Students will examine how the Declaration of Independence and Constitutional Convention contributed to the creation of the presidential office. They will come to understand how the exercise of chief executive power has changed from George Washington to modern administrations and, accordingly, how presidential leadership shapes public and foreign policy.

This course also serves the purpose of helping your navigate your way as a first semester student at Franklin Pierce University. You are all my advsiees and I am here to advise you on your academic plan for your time as a student and how that might correspond to your possible professional and career objectives. I find the role of academic and student advisor to be very rewarding and hope you take advantage of my experience giving guidance to first-year students.
